Settings for the Xenon 1902g-bf

Xenon 1902g-bf Battery Free Barcode Scanner are in distribution and we are providing help here on factory defaults and tools to make it happen.  First, here are terms to understand.

  • Factory Defaults:  The scanner’s settings that are done at the factory during manufacturing.
  • Custom Defaults:  Any changes to the scanner’s setting that one makes permanent.  Making changed settings permanent will be the topic of a future Scanner Gram.  Once Custom Defaults are set up/saved – they become “Factory Defaults”.
  • Data Formatting:  Program the scanner to edit, delete, append scanned data.

Scanning this barcode sets your scanner back to factory default including getting rid of any special Data Formatting you have your scanner doing.  If there are any saved Custom Defaults (See above Custom Defaults) scanning this barcode takes the scanner back to your saved Custom Defaults – not all the way to true Honeywell Factory Default.

Scanning this barcode clears any Custom Defaults that have been saved to your scanner – but that’s all it does.  It does not send your scanner back to Honeywell Factory Default.  Note one VERY important item – DEFOVR will disable plugins (EasyDL, Easy BCBP, etc.) and you may need to reach out to tech support to re-enable them.So if you are not sure what your scanner has been through, and you are sure the scanner has no plugins, and you want to get it back to true Factory Default – scan Defovr then Defalt.

Dfmca3 is the command that clears any Data Formatting you’ve programmed your scanner to do. It does not clear any scanner settings or send your scanner back to Factory Default.

Using the Xenon 1902g-bf scanner manual you can add commands with a simple barcode scan.

Scanners can multi-task. Your scanner professional can share codes and information on how your simple bar code reader can make your application and workers more productive. Contact a Honeywell Specialist at BarcodeFactory for help.

Comparing the Orbit 7190g and Genesis 7580g

honeywell genesis 7580g scanner
Here is how we would compare…

  • If you are scanning mostly screens, (digital coupons), and occasionally merchandise, we recommend the Genesis 7580g. You will find these readers in Starbuck’s and they have a large amount of digital scanning.
  • If you are scanning mostly merchandise and occasionally screens, we recommend the new Orbit 7190g hybrid. Maybe you are just starting to scan digital coupons. The 7190g is your best option.
  • And if you are scanning just merchandise we recommend the Orbit 7190g (the laser only version).

orbit 7190gDon’t think of the Orbit 7190g as a cheap alternative to the Genesis.  It’s not, but if you are doing a mix of reading barcodes on cell phones and on merchandise, stay with the 7580g.

Put Away the Measuring Tape: Get Package Dimensions Instantly with AutoCube 8200

AutoCube 8200
AutoCube 8200 Dimensional Scanner

The measuring tape is still the standby to capture package dimensions at the retail counters of many parcel companies. The problems with this are obvious – slower service, longer lines and less-satisfied customers. Add the risk of inaccurate measurements resulting in less revenue, and it’s clear there has to be a better way.

With the new AutoCube™ fixed dimensioning system from Honeywell, there is. AutoCube captures accurate package dimensions instantly and with extreme accuracy – enabling employees to provide faster service, work more efficiently and capture more revenue. AutoCube takes instant measurements and displays the Dim Weight provided by all shippers, and it will also keep a full color image in your records for proof of dimensional weight, to protect you from overcharges.

Take your retail shipping operations to a new level of efficiency with AutoCube. Available June 2017 from BarcodeFactory.  Contact us now for a quote and more information, or a demonstration.

Honeywell Barcode Scanners

There are many low cost USB scanners flooding the US market from China. These scanners range in price from $30 to $55.00. What is the difference? First the scan engines, electronics and housings are all cheaper. These barcode readers typically work out of the box but do not have the long life we see from a robust barcode scanner in the $100 to $150 range. Most of the cheap imports have a one year warranty and if the scanner goes down, the disruption cost is high in retail.

Honeywell scanners have a 5 year warranty. Typically we see these in use for many years beyond their warranty life and the cost of ownership ends up being mush less than a low cost generic import. Honeywell backs up their products too with user tools and tech support. The readers today can perform many functions beyond simple scanning.

High-Performance Healthcare Scanner

intermec-sg20The Honeywell SG20 High-Performance Healthcare Scanner features responsive and reliable performance to help eliminate errors and improve patient care. Whether at the admitting desk, nurses’ station, patient bedside, lab or pharmacy – the SG20 scanner minimizes the time and effort to read a barcode, improving productivity while helping complete important verification processes.
Scanners have long been the de facto data capture device for healthcare, but are often slow, unreliable and not well-suited to this environment. The SG20 scanner is built to excel in the hospital, with industry-leading omnidirectional 2D barcode reading speed and technology and more motion tolerance than competing devices. All common 1D and 2D barcodes can be scanned easily and consistently at almost any orientation without time-consuming item repositioning or disturbance to resting patients.

A variety of communication options make the transition to automatic barcode data capture fast and easy. Connecting to your existing infrastructure is easy with support for USB, RS-232 and keyboard wedge cable interfaces – as well as optional Bluetooth® wireless connectivity.

Healthcare scanners are often used at the point of care where infection control is crucial. The disinfectant-ready housing of the SG20 scanner, when combined with a protocol of frequent disinfecting, can minimize the spread of infectious diseases while providing years of reliable service under these conditions.

Industrial Granit Class Scanners Integrate With Ipad

granit1910 jpgIn the Xenon/Granit’s User’s Guide there is a section titled “Virtual Keyboard”. It says, “Once your scanner has been connected directly to an Ipad, smart phone, or laptop, you can toggle the virtual keyboard on your device with a quick double pull of the scanner trigger.”  Then it says “Note: This feature is not supported in Granit devices.”

That is no longer true.  The User’s Guide will be updated shortly.  For the Granit 1981i this has not been true for a while.  And for the Granit 1911i this is no longer true with the latest firmware.

Why is this important? Customers call us looking for a scanner recommendation on pairing an industrial scanner (Granit class) with a tablet – mostly Ipads.  This is a good option for an industrial class paired with an ipad. The Xenon is an alternate for the same application. Due to the ruggedness, don’t be afraid to put the base for the Granit 1911i and 1981i on a lift truck.

Before you upgrade your Granit 1911i with the latest firmware so that you can toggle keyboards remember – upgrade the scanner’s firmware first then the base.  Or you’ll end up with a brick!

Smart Barcoding with Intelligent Signature Capture

Barcode scanners can often do much more than one step barcode reading. With a simple command a barcode reader can be configured to process data in multiple steps, or strip specific data out of a code. Here is an example for signature capture using the Honeywell Xenon, Honeywell Granit or Honeywell Genes
is readers.  This process is called Intelligent Signature Capture and we list below how a client is using this feature with their application:

  • Customer picks up product
  • Customer is given a receipt to sign.  The receipt has a barcode underneath it.
  • You receive the signed receipt and you scan the barcode with your Honeywell Xenon reader.
  • The barcode scanned is not  an ordinary barcode.  This barcode, (available through the Honeywell Xenon User Guide), tells the reader that there is an image above the barcode, (in this case the signature), that needs to be captured.  The host then tells the scanner in an instant without having to pull the trigger a second time to snap the picture. It could be any kind of image though, not limited to a signature.
  • The signature is then sent to the host, and is cleaned and trimmed for storage.
